Chicago Bears Roster Update: Gordon Hits IR, Two Players Elevated – What It Means for the Team

The Chicago Bears made a significant roster move on Saturday by placing defensive back Kyler Gordon on the Reserve/Injured list. This decision, while disappointing for the team and fans, opens the door for other players to step up.

In a strategic move, the Bears elevated running back Brittain Brown and linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin from the practice squad for their upcoming match against the Cleveland Browns. According to NFL rules, these players will return to the practice squad after the game.

Brittain Brown has been with the Bears since training camp and has spent the entire 2025 season on the practice squad. He made his debut in a recent victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, rushing for 37 yards on five carries and scoring a 22-yard touchdown. Before joining the Bears, he played with the Las Vegas Raiders and later spent time on the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad. His college career at Duke and UCLA was impressive, where he accumulated over 2,200 rushing yards and had 21 touchdowns.

Jalen Reeves-Maybin, currently in his ninth NFL season, joined the Bears just before Week 12 and has already made an impact. He has played two games this season and brings a wealth of experience, having been drafted by the Detroit Lions in 2017. His career stats include 160 tackles and recognition as an AP Second-Team All-Pro for his special teams play last year. Reeves-Maybin’s collegiate career at Tennessee showcased his talent, where he recorded 240 tackles.

Adjusting to injuries is a common theme in the NFL. For instance, according to a recent study by the NFL Players Association, injuries can lead to significant shifts in team performance. The Bears, like many teams, will need to rely on the depth of their squad to navigate these challenges.

As fans prepare for Sunday’s game, the excitement builds around how Brown and Reeves-Maybin will contribute. Their performances could be pivotal, not only for this game but for their careers moving forward.
