MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The 21st-ranked University of Chicago women’s lacrosse team concluded their 2026 season in the NCAA DIII Women’s Lacrosse Tournament. In a tough matchup, they faced off against the 2nd-ranked Wesleyan University and lost 14-7.
The game started with a bang as the Cardinals quickly scored four unanswered goals in the first quarter. UChicago struggled to find its rhythm initially but turned things around in the second quarter.
Just three minutes in, Wesleyan increased their lead to 5-0. But UChicago didn’t back down. Wynne Boggan scored from a free position shot after a foul, narrowing the gap to four. Wesleyan quickly answered, but the Maroons pushed back again, with Nicoletta Tsiamis setting up Peyton McGuire for a goal just before halftime, making it 8-2.
The Maroons showed resilience in the third quarter, adding two more goals despite another early marker from Wesleyan. Grace Hopkins scored off an assist from Avery Song during a man-up situation. Later, McGuire capitalized on another free position shot, making it 12-4.
Entering the fourth quarter, the Cardinals led by ten. However, UChicago maintained their persistence. McGuire scored two consecutive goals with assists from Boggan, followed by Emily Sensenich, who brought down the house with her second goal of the season.
McGuire stood out with four goals, while Sensenich, Hopkins, and Boggan each contributed one goal. In goal, Lily Brill made nine saves out of 14 shots.
Despite the loss, UChicago finished a commendable season with an 11-6 record and their second consecutive trip to the Sweet Sixteen. This season is a testament to their growth: in 2025, they ended with a record of 9-8, highlighting their improvement and determination.
