Quarterback Patrick Mahomes is on the path to greatness. He has three Super Bowl rings, but that still trails Tom Brady’s seven. At just 29, Mahomes has plenty of time to climb higher.

One interesting comparison is between the coaches. Kansas City’s Andy Reid, 66, is making a strong case to be seen alongside New England’s Bill Belichick, 72, who many consider the greatest coach ever due to his six Super Bowl victories and innovative strategies. Reid’s chances to cement his legacy grow with each Super Bowl appearance.

Right now, Belichick has a notable edge. His six titles compared to Reid’s three is significant, especially at this level where winning is expected. Belichick also holds a head-to-head record against Reid, having beaten him in Super Bowls and other playoff games.

Belichick has had a long and successful career, with a record of 302 wins to 165 losses in the regular season and 31 wins to 13 losses in the playoffs. In contrast, Reid boasts a record of 273 wins, 146 losses, and one tie in the regular season, and 28 wins to 16 losses in the playoffs. This Sunday’s game will mark his 45th postseason appearance, setting a new record for most tries.

While Belichick’s success is impressive, Reid’s track record is growing. Most of Belichick’s victories came with Brady as his quarterback. His win-loss record without Brady isn’t as strong. Meanwhile, Reid has had solid seasons both with Mahomes and during his earlier years with the Eagles and Chiefs.

In their own ways, both coaches are legends. With Mahomes still young and in his prime, Reid has the potential to catch up. A victory on Sunday would bolster the Chiefs’ status and enhance Reid’s legacy, but even if they don’t win, they’re likely to remain contenders in the coming seasons.

As for Belichick, he now coaches at the college level, while Reid is inching closer to him in the all-time debate.
