On Sunday morning, Dhaka experienced lighter fog than the day before. There were brief moments of sunshine on Saturday, and today started sunny as well. However, temperatures in the capital have dropped a bit. Meteorologists predict that winter will intensify slightly in Dhaka and across the country.
This morning, Sreemangal in Moulvibazar district recorded the lowest temperature in Bangladesh at 9.5 degrees Celsius. On Saturday, three locations—Badalgachhi in Naogaon, Pabna, and Rajshahi—had a chillier reading of 9 degrees Celsius.
In Dhaka, the minimum temperature today stood at 12.3 degrees Celsius, down from 12.5 on Saturday. This colder trend may last for another day or two. Without rain, the fog is likely to linger, but today might see more sunshine than Saturday did.
Meteorologist Md Abul Kalam Mallik noted that winter is gaining strength in the capital. He mentioned that daytime temperatures might rise slightly but warned that nighttime temperatures could drop again.
Cold wave conditions are currently affecting several areas, including Moulvibazar and Naogaon. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department forecasts that we might experience five cold waves throughout January. Meteorologist Md Omar Faruk indicated that temperatures could see a slight uptick on Sunday and Monday but could dip again by Wednesday, possibly starting a new cold wave.
When temperatures drop between 8.1 and 10 degrees Celsius, it’s a mild cold wave. A moderate cold wave occurs at 6.1 to 8 degrees Celsius, while severe cold waves are categorized between 4.1 and 6 degrees. Anything below 4 degrees falls under the very severe cold wave category.
