Choi Jin-hyuk, a popular South Korean actor, plays the role of Kang Du-jun, a second-generation heir, in the new K-drama Positively Yours. In a chat with AsiaOne, he shared some entertaining insights into the life of a chaebol.
Jin-hyuk admits that there’s a certain allure to the chaebol lifestyle. “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit envious,” he quipped. Yet, he also feels the weight of the expectations that come with it, saying, “People treat you with formality, which can feel burdensome.”
Despite their differences, Jin-hyuk finds that he and Du-jun have a lot in common. Both value loyalty and responsibility, and share a strong desire to protect those they care about. In the drama, Du-jun and his employee, Jang Hui-won, played by Oh Yeon-seo, face a complicated situation when a one-night stand leads to an unexpected pregnancy.
Yeon-seo describes her character as ambitious and career-focused. “Hui-won is all in for her job, working late nights and pushing through challenges,” she says. However, both characters embody resilience, bouncing back from setbacks.
Reflecting on their lives, Yeon-seo mentioned, “Life is about choices. There are regrets, but there are also moments of joy.” She embraces the ups and downs, highlighting the warmth that can be found in everyday experiences.
On set, the chemistry between Jin-hyuk and Yeon-seo was undeniable. “We clicked instantly,” she recalls. Jin-hyuk echoed her sentiments, calling her the best co-star he could hope for. Their mutual respect and ease with each other made filming enjoyable.
Memorable moments from the set include laughing during a scene featuring Yeon-seo’s character and her best friend. Jin-hyuk mentioned that some scenes, like the one involving their one-night stand, required careful attention to detail, making them particularly memorable.
Positively Yours has garnered impressive success, ranking first in 116 countries on Viki. The cast was surprised by the positive reception, with Jong-hyun stating, “I couldn’t believe it. It feels unreal.” Their collective gratitude is evident, as they appreciate the show’s ability to resonate with a global audience.
