I recently attended a political conference that truly stood out. Having been to many over the past 20 years, I’ve seen it all—Labour, Conservative, Liberal Democrat, and more. But this time was different.

I arrived a bit late, thanks to the recent government reshuffle, which added to the buzz surrounding the event. What impressed me most was how Reform UK is growing. This gathering was much larger than last year’s. It felt like a significant party conference but still managed to keep that fresh, exuberant energy.

Balancing growth with that “new kid on the block” feel is tough, but they seem to be doing it well. Unlike UKIP, which had a narrower focus, Reform UK is positioning itself as a serious contender. The venue choice reflects this ambition. Instead of a local hall, they booked the huge NEC in Birmingham. Even with such a large space, it felt lively and engaged.

The atmosphere mixed the familiar elements of larger conferences, like corporate sponsors, with unique touches. I spotted people excitedly waiting for Nigel Farage to sign their Reform UK football shirts. The playful nature of this symbolizes their big ambitions.

Within the main exhibition area, I noticed multiple stands representing different UK regions. This shows Reform’s efforts to create a grassroots network of local branches, which is vital for any national party. While the flashy speeches are important, this foundational work is what really matters.

Talking to attendees, I found many had never been involved in politics before joining Reform. Their stories added a personal touch to the event. Some moved from other political affiliations, often feeling disillusioned with their former parties. This shift signals a changing landscape of political loyalty.

All around, the conference’s slogan, “The Next Step,” perfectly encapsulates Reform’s ambitions. The party has gained significant traction in the past year. Membership is approaching a quarter of a million, and leaders are adamant about continuing this momentum.

Nigel Farage closed the event with a powerful message: “Discipline.” He called for unity and commitment, emphasizing that internal disagreements should stay private. This reflects a newfound seriousness in his leadership.

In recent polls, Reform UK has seen a noticeable increase in support. According to a 2023 survey by YouGov, they are now the choice for 12% of voters, up from just 5% a year ago. This surge highlights the shifting political dynamics in the UK.

As I left the conference, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something significant is happening. With strong leadership and fresh energy, Reform UK could very well be a player in the next election. Only time will show whether they can maintain this momentum and break through in a crowded political arena.
