Christus Marks 10 Years of Giving: Celebrating with a Major Donation to East Texas Food Bank to Support Local Pantries

In Tyler, Christus Health marked its 10th anniversary by taking meaningful action. They donated $10,000 to the East Texas Food Bank, helping support ten local food pantries. This donation addresses food insecurity, a pressing issue identified through their community health needs assessment.

In a twist of generosity, an anonymous donor matched that amount, increasing the total to $20,000. This contribution is expected to provide around 100,000 meals to families in East Texas.

“This anniversary isn’t just a celebration but an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the community,” explained Jason Proctor, president of Christus Trinity Mother Frances Health System. He emphasized the importance of serving alongside local partners, not just within hospital walls.

Christus staff will also lend a hand by volunteering at the ten food pantries receiving support. The pantries benefiting from this initiative include:

  • Community Care Food Pantry in Athens
  • Manna, Inc. in Canton
  • H.O.P.E. in Jacksonville
  • David Powell Community Food Pantry in Lindale
  • Rosehill Community Food Pantry in Mineola
  • Rockhill Food Pantry in Chandler
  • Swan Food Pantry
  • PATH in Tyler
  • St. Vincent de Paul in Tyler
  • Winnsboro Community Resource Center

Andrea Wilson-Lobaugh, executive director of PATH, stressed the importance of cooperation among organizations. “Partnerships like this are vital. No single group can address such a big need; it requires teamwork to keep our communities strong.”

This initiative reflects a growing trend towards community-focused partnerships. According to a recent report from Feeding America, food insecurity rates have surged, affecting 1 in 6 families. Organizations across the country are stepping up, showcasing how collaboration can lead to impactful change.
