Cincinnati Father Charged in Deputy’s Death After Son’s Tragic Killing by Police

CINCINNATI (AP) — A tragic chain of events unfolded when a man, Rodney Hinton Jr., struck and killed a Hamilton County deputy with his car. Authorities suspect the crash was intentional. Just a day before, Hinton’s son, 18-year-old Ryan Hinton, was shot and killed by police during a pursuit related to a stolen car.

Rodney Hinton, 38, faces aggravated murder charges. In court, prosecutors revealed evidence suggesting he aimed his vehicle directly at the deputy. Hinton’s attorney noted that his client has no prior felonies, emphasizing the severity of the situation.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine expressed his dismay over what seems like a deliberate act of violence. Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge stated that the deputy was managing traffic near the University of Cincinnati on a significant day—graduation day—when he was struck.
