All three All-Stars from the Indiana Fever will play together in the upcoming WNBA All-Star Game on July 19 in Indianapolis. The rosters, picked by captains Caitlin Clark of the Fever and Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx, were announced recently.
Clark and Collier, both fan favorites, started by selecting from eight starters and then filled out their teams with twelve reserves. Interestingly, they decided to swap coaches. Minnesota’s Cheryl Reeve was originally set to lead Team Clark because her team had the best record. However, since she’s also Collier’s coach with the Lynx, they switched coaches for better team synergy.
In the draft, Clark chose her Fever teammates first. She picked forward/center Aliyah Boston as her top choice, followed by guard Kelsey Mitchell. Clark’s team also includes standout players like Sabrina Ionescu from the Liberty and A’ja Wilson, a three-time MVP from the Las Vegas Aces.
On Team Collier, she selected Breanna Stewart of the Liberty, her former teammate, with her second pick. The team continues with talented players like Allisha Gray from the Atlanta Dream and Nneka Ogwumike of the Seattle Storm.
Despite discussing possible trades, no players were swapped. Clark initially proposed trading Sabally for Stewart, aiming to have Brondello coach both Liberty players, but that suggestion didn’t go through.
This year, the All-Star 3-Point Contest and Skills Challenge will be held on July 18, with the main game set for July 19 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
