Clark Atlanta University Mourns Loss of Alumnus Dr. Cameisha Clark

Hearts are heavy at Clark Atlanta University (CAU) following the tragic death of Dr. Cameisha Clark, a beloved alumna and college dean. Dr. Clark was fatally shot on May 2 at Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology in Inglewood, California.

In her honor, CAU plans to establish a scholarship to support students pursuing education. President Dr. George T. French Jr. praised Dr. Clark, stating she “exemplified the Panther spirit” and left a lasting legacy of leadership and commitment.

Dr. Clark earned three degrees from CAU, including her doctorate. She had recently been appointed Dean of Student Affairs. Her deep ties to the university included her late grandfather’s role as interim provost and her membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

She was passionate about combating gun violence and established a foundation in Atlanta called C Squared, reflecting her commitment to making a difference.

On the night of her death, former security guard Jesse Figueroa allegedly returned to the campus and shot Dr. Clark and her assistant. Police labeled the attack as targeted, with a motive yet to be clarified. Figueroa faces multiple charges, including murder and attempted murder, with a court appearance scheduled for May 29.

Dr. Clark’s commitment to her community was recognized only months before her death when she was celebrated as a “Triple Panther.” This acknowledgment highlighted her achievements and dedication to education. The outpouring of grief on social media reflects how many lives she touched.
