Rich & Savvy’s Cigar and Bourbon Lounge in Clarkesville is about to undergo an exciting change. It will soon be known as 1442 Cocktails and Café. Richard Avirett, the owner, aims to offer a unique experience for everyone in downtown Clarkesville.
Richard hails from a suburban area near Tampa. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the 1990s and participated in various combat zones. After his military service, he worked in the security industry before opening Rich & Savvy’s in July 2023. He wanted to create a space that filled a gap in the local community.
As he prepares for the transition, Richard is eager to enhance the offerings. He noticed there weren’t many places like his in the area. “The people moving here seek out this type of atmosphere,” he said.
By March, the lounge will shift focus from cigars and bourbon tastings to delicious finger foods, tasty drinks, and live music. Richard has listened closely to his guests, especially the women who make up a significant portion of his clientele. They’ve expressed their love for cocktails and the atmosphere but disliked the smoke. Recognizing this need, Richard decided it was time for a change.
The new café will feature quality hors d’oeuvres at reasonable prices. Starting in the morning, 1442 Cocktails and Café will offer breakfast options like coffee, charcuterie, oysters, shrimp cocktail, cakes, pies, pastries, and more from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The name “1442” comes from the location’s address on Washington Street. After 11 a.m., the focus will shift to craft cocktails. Richard integrates a high-end mixology approach, but keeps prices affordable. “All my recipes are unique, designed here, so you’ll find something you won’t get anywhere else,” he stated.
Entertainment will play a big role in the café as well. Richard plans to feature live music several nights a week, showcasing new talent from Georgia and beyond. He’s even considering stand-up comedy shows in the future.
“We want to create a vibe full of good food and fun entertainment at fair prices,” he explained. The café will be open Tuesday through Saturday, from 7 a.m. until midnight, in its spacious location.
Eventually, Richard envisions a modern speakeasy in the downstairs section, with exclusive access through a monthly membership. This space could also be rented for special events.
Richard is clear about his vision: 1442 Cocktails and Café will not be your typical bar. “It’s a friendly place built on community,” he said. “People come here to enjoy themselves, not to get drunk.” He sees this change as a fresh start and a chance to cater to what the community truly desires.
As he prepares for the transformation, Richard looks forward to building a welcoming atmosphere where everyone can gather over great food, drinks, and entertainment.
