BOSTON – The No. 3 UConn men’s basketball team (3-0) is set for a big challenge this Saturday in Boston. They will face No. 7 BYU in the Amica Insurance Hall of Fame Series at the TD Garden, with the game kicking off at 7 p.m. on FOX.
This matchup is crucial as it’s the first of six tough games for UConn in the next month, all against teams ranked in the top 40 of the Kenpom rankings. It’s only the second time UConn and BYU have met on the court, the first being in the 2003 NCAA Tournament when UConn came out on top with a 58-53 victory. Last year, UConn played in the Hall of Fame Series, defeating Gonzaga at Madison Square Garden.
Recently, UConn secured a comfortable 27-point victory over Columbia. They built a significant lead in the first half and maintained it throughout. Solo Ball led the team with 23 points, while Alex Karaban contributed 20 points and six rebounds, and Tarris Reed Jr. added 19 points and eight rebounds. Overall, UConn has dominated in their first three games, winning by an average of 38 points.
Tarris Reed Jr. currently leads the Huskies, averaging 19.5 points and 10 rebounds in just 21 minutes per game. Solo Ball follows closely with 18.3 points, while Karaban adds 17.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.7 assists. Silas Demary Jr. rounds out the offense, scoring 10.3 points and collecting an impressive 6.0 assists, leading the BIG EAST. As a team, UConn is scoring 92.7 points per game and shooting 55.6%, making them one of the most efficient offenses in the nation.
On the other side, BYU is also 3-0, having recently defeated Villanova, Holy Cross, and Delaware. Richie Saunders leads the Cougars with 20.3 points per game and is shooting 47.4% from three-point range. Freshman AJ Dybantsa is making waves, averaging 18.7 points and 7.0 rebounds while shooting an impressive 57.5%. With their strong start, BYU ranks No. 7 in the AP Top-25 and has the seventh-best offensive efficiency in the Kenpom rankings.
After BYU, UConn faces another tough matchup, hosting No. 5 Arizona at Gampel Pavilion on November 19, keeping the competition fierce as the season unfolds.
