PHOENIX – An 18-year-old named Kaden Lopez faced arrest during a Phoenix Mercury basketball game for throwing a sex toy into the crowd, hitting a man and his 9-year-old niece.
On August 5, the incident was captured on video. Witnesses reported that Lopez pulled a green dildo from his pocket and threw it. He then stood up and attempted to leave the area. A volunteer at the arena tackled him before the police arrived.
The man who was hit explained that he was enjoying the game with his niece when the object struck him. After seeing what it was, he chose to report the incident and pursue charges. Lopez later expressed regret, stating it was meant to be a “stupid prank” inspired by a viral trend on social media. He admitted to purchasing the toy just the day before.
Lopez was charged with disorderly conduct, assault, and public display of explicit sexual material. Both the WNBA and PHX Arena supported his prosecution for disorderly conduct.
