Clean Drinking Water: Thousands of Bottles Distributed to Residents of Hendry and Glades Counties by Local Food Bank

Clean Drinking Water Distributed in Rural Florida Communities

In rural areas like Hendry and Glades counties in Florida, getting basic needs met can be challenging. Recently, the Harry Chapin Food Bank stepped up, delivering 10,000 bottles of clean drinking water to locals. This initiative is crucial, as many people struggle to access safe water.

Robert James, a LaBelle resident, shared how important this help is. “Everybody needs a helping hand,” he said. For those without extra money, free water is a lifesaver.

Shontae Russ, the community outreach manager, emphasized the need for clean water. “Sometimes the water isn’t drinkable,” she explained, highlighting the organization’s mission to ensure that those in need receive safe drinking water alongside regular food distributions.

Accessibility is another issue. Russ noted that many residents can’t find grocery stores nearby, leaving them without easy access to essential items.

Having clean water goes beyond basic survival. For James, it’s about peace of mind. “You don’t have to worry if it’s contaminated,” he added, appreciating the service and looking forward to paying it forward. “It’s a stepping stone. It’ll teach you how to give.”

The need for accessible clean water is echoed by recent statistics from the CDC, which show that nearly 2 million Americans lack access to safe drinking water. This highlights the importance of initiatives like those from the Harry Chapin Food Bank.

In communities where resources are sparse, efforts to provide clean water and food make a significant impact, offering hope and support to many families.
