Cleveland Clinic Donates 0,000 to Support Greater Dover New Philadelphia Food Pantry: A Lifeline for the Community

On May 7, Cleveland Clinic pledged $750,000 over five years to the Greater Dover New Philadelphia Food Pantry. This contribution is part of a larger $50 million initiative aimed at combating food insecurity in local communities.

Vickie Johnson, the Chief Community Officer at Cleveland Clinic, emphasized the importance of supporting local organizations. She noted, “This investment helps ensure steady access to nutritious food for families throughout the year.” The pantry plays a crucial role, providing food assistance to over 800 families every week.

Dr. Kavitha Subramanian, Chief Medical Officer at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital, highlighted that healthy food access is essential for long-term health. This partnership goes beyond hospital care, addressing crucial community needs.

The pantry, founded in 2008, was born from a community effort to combine smaller food resources into one. This allows it to serve families equitably, embodying principles of dignity and access. Bill Fritz, the pantry’s Treasurer, reflected on its journey from humble beginnings in a Salvation Army basement to a key player in the fight against hunger in the Tuscarawas River Valley. He thanked Cleveland Clinic for their partnership, emphasizing how it opens new avenues for hope and possibility in the community.

This commitment by Cleveland Clinic supports various programs aimed at reducing food insecurity, including teaching kitchens, meal initiatives for kids, and free produce distributions.

As we look at current statistics, a recent survey by the U.S. Department of Agriculture found that nearly 10% of American households experience food insecurity. This highlights the ongoing need for support systems like the Greater Dover New Philadelphia Food Pantry.

By collaborating with local partners, Cleveland Clinic is making strides in ensuring that healthy food access is available to everyone, especially those who need it the most. For more information on food assistance programs in your area, check resources like the Feeding America network.
