Clowney Joins Cowboys: What This Means for the Team’s Future and His Impact by 2025

FRISCO, Texas — Jadeveon Clowney has signed a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys, marking a significant step in his career. He’s excited, especially since he’s reuniting with two familiar faces: defensive passing game coordinator Andre Curtis and head coach Brian Schottenheimer.

Clowney’s happiness showed in his first interview with the team. “Growing up, I always heard about the Cowboys. My family followed them, and I feel pumped to be here,” he shared with Nicole Hutchison from DallasCowboys.com. “I’m really looking forward to the chance to play again.”

After spending past seasons with the Carolina Panthers and proving he still has talent, Clowney is focused on winning a championship. He had impressive stats in recent years, including 9.5 sacks in 2024 and 5.5 sacks in 2025, demonstrating that he’s still a key player.

A big part of what drew him to Dallas was the promise he wouldn’t have to cover as much. “I really just want to rush the passer,” Clowney said. “Last year, I dropped back a lot, which isn’t my strong suit. Here, I’ll have the chance to go forward more.” This shift could enhance his effectiveness against quarterbacks.

Clowney recently shared that he dropped 10 pounds to manage coverage duties. Now, he plans on regaining that weight to boost his strength in rushing situations. He’s already in football shape and is eager to play against the Chicago Bears in Week 3.

Clowney’s move to Dallas was influenced significantly by the team’s roster changes, especially the arrival of three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark. “I felt it was a great fit for me,” he explained. “They have a strong secondary and good defensive tackles. I wanted to be a part of it.”

The Cowboys have been interested in Clowney for some time. Even a recent game against the New York Giants was pivotal for sealing the deal. His visit to the facility left a lasting impression, and conversations with Schottenheimer helped solidify his decision.

Clowney describes Schottenheimer as full of energy, saying, “His approach really resonated with me. I knew I could thrive in his system.” They even had a memorable dinner, where Clowney’s son humorously interrupted saying he didn’t know Schottenheimer. The coach lightheartedly replied, “You might soon.”

With Clowney now on board, Dallas fans have high hopes for the upcoming season. As he steps onto the field, he looks to add to his legacy and help the Cowboys chase the Lombardi Trophy.
