Gorakhpur, India – On March 4, Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shared warm wishes with the people for Holi, a festival he sees as a treasured part of India’s rich heritage. “This festival represents our thousand-year-old legacy. It’s a joy to see our current generation carry it forward with such enthusiasm,” he said in an interview.
The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of unity and harmony during the celebrations. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for blending India’s traditions with modern development, helping to shape what he calls a “Naya Bharat” or New India. He believes that under Modi’s leadership, the country is becoming more self-reliant and a progressive nation, echoing the aspirations of an “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” (Self-Reliant India).
CM Yogi noted that Holika Dahan, the ritual bonfire that is part of Holi, was observed at around 168,000 locations in Uttar Pradesh, all done peacefully. Additionally, he participated in the festivities by feeding cows at Gorakhnath Mandir Gaushala, a gesture meant to honor the sacred bond between people and nature.
Holi marks the arrival of spring and is deeply rooted in Hindu mythology, symbolizing the victory of good over evil. It begins with Holika Dahan, followed by a day filled with colorful joy shared among friends and family. This vibrant celebration encourages the community to come together, strengthening bonds and spreading happiness.
Interestingly, recent surveys show that around 70% of Indians feel that festivals like Holi play a crucial role in promoting social harmony. As people come together to celebrate, these moments foster a sense of belonging that transcends differences.
