Coastal Carolina is gearing up for an exciting basketball season as they kicked off their first practice for the 2025-26 season. They’re allowed 30 practice sessions before their first game, which will be against Western Michigan on November 3, as part of the SBC-MAC Challenge.
Head coach Justin Gray, now in his second year, has been busy building the team. He brought in seven transfers and two freshmen to join six returning players. Gray highlighted the importance of this phase. “We’ve been working out all summer, but now we can go a bit longer and apply more pressure to see how we respond,” he said. “It’s crucial to enjoy the process of getting better every day.”
Rasheed Jones, a redshirt junior, is a standout returnee. Last season, he averaged 11.6 points and 3.8 rebounds per game, making him one of the team’s top three-point shooters. Another returner, Braeden MacVicar, is back after sitting out last season. He previously averaged 6.1 points and 4.0 rebounds in his freshman year.
The team also welcomed four graduate transfers: Joshua Beadle, Reggie Hill, Jerry Ngopot, and Nadjrick Peat, along with younger players like DaJohn Craig and AJ Dancler, who have multiple years of eligibility left. Freshmen Devin Brown and Tristan Thompson are also stepping onto the court for the first time.
Fans will have plenty of chances to catch the games, with 13 home matches scheduled at the HTC Center. The season starts on November 7 against Virginia University of Lynchburg.
In recent years, the NCAA has seen an uptick in transfers, with nearly 1,000 players switching schools annually. This trend underlines the changing landscape of college sports, where players seek the best fit for their careers.
