New Orleans – Coastal Carolina juniors Jalyn Stout and Anna Rita have made headlines in the Sun Belt Conference for their stunning performances at the Wolfpack Invitational last week.
Stout was recognized as the Offensive Player of the Week, while Rita earned the title of Defensive Player of the Week. Stout’s impressive showcase has already earned her two Player of the Week awards in just three weeks.
During the tournament, Stout registered a triple-double in all three matches, helping her clinch the MVP title. She averaged an outstanding 3.92 kills, 3.83 assists, and 3.50 digs per set, amassing 47 kills, 46 assists, and 42 digs with a hitting percentage of .300. Notably, she achieved a personal best of 17 digs in the first match against Cleveland State and matched her career-high with seven blocks.
Rita also had an impressive tournament, contributing significantly both defensively and offensively. She racked up 25 total blocks and 24 kills over 12 sets, earning all-tournament honors for her efforts. In the match against Cleveland State, she reached a season-high with 10 blocks and was just one block shy of a double-double against NC State, where she recorded 10 kills and nine blocks. Her offensive stats were notable as well, hitting .526 against Utah Valley and .321 for the tournament.
The Chanticleers will be back in action Thursday at the 305 Invitational in Miami, where they’ll face the host Hurricanes, followed by a match against FIU on Friday.
Stout and Rita’s achievements highlight the growing talent in collegiate volleyball. According to the NCAA, the number of female student-athletes in volleyball has steadily increased over the past decade, reflecting the sport’s rising popularity. As more athletes like Stout and Rita break records and earn accolades, interest in women’s volleyball continues to grow, drawing more fans and inspiring future generations.
