DENVER — For the second year in a row, Colorado has received top marks from CDP, a global nonprofit focused on environmental reporting and transparency. This recognition highlights the state’s commitment to tracking environmental data and setting ambitious goals.
In 2025, Colorado was one of only two states to achieve the prestigious A-list status among 91 states and regions reporting their environmental data. Additionally, 30 U.S. cities, including Denver and Aspen, also made it to the A-list.
Governor Jared Polis emphasized that using data effectively aids in climate decision-making and promotes cost savings while protecting natural resources. He notes that informed strategies can lead to significant environmental benefits.
According to Jill Hunsaker Ryan, the executive director of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, this A-list designation reflects the state’s strategic approach to reducing emissions. Lower emissions not only benefit the environment but also improve public health and reduce healthcare costs over time.
To qualify for the A-list, states and local governments had to publish a comprehensive emissions inventory and create a climate risk assessment and action plan. They also need to be on track for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 or sooner.
Data transparency is a cornerstone of Colorado’s environmental justice strategy. The state collaborates with local governments, communities, and businesses to achieve better air quality and lower emissions, ultimately benefiting residents financially and health-wise.
