Patricio Alejandro Illanes, a 39-year-old English teacher, was arrested by local authorities after an investigation into serious allegations of child sexual exploitation. The case began in September 2025 when detectives from the Boulder County Digital Forensics Lab received multiple tips from Meta, Inc. concerning Illanes’ online activities. He was accused of creating and distributing sexually explicit content involving minors through various messaging apps and subscription sites.
A detailed search of Illanes’ phone uncovered disturbing videos. These clips featured young people, who were encouraged to act out scripts in a staged performance that mimicked a hypnotic state. The editing of these videos raised red flags for investigators. Thanks to their efforts, the implicated platforms have since removed the content and suspended Illanes’ accounts.
So far, four minors have been identified and interviewed. They confirmed they were instructed by Illanes to remove clothing during these role-play sessions. Additional photographs were also found, depicting students in school settings.
Illanes faces numerous felony charges, including:
- Ten counts of sexual exploitation of a child, involving creating, distributing, and possessing explicit material.
- Unlawful practice of occupation, classified as a misdemeanor.
As of now, Illanes has been placed on administrative leave and subsequently terminated from his position at Arvada Senior High School. Schools where Illanes previously worked include Longmont Library and several local high schools. Authorities are urging former students and colleagues who might have more information to come forward.
