Columbia Board of Education to Explore the Impact of AMI Days This Thursday: What You Need to Know

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ) — The Columbia Board of Education will meet Thursday morning to evaluate how well Alternate Methods of Instruction (AMI) are working.

They will review feedback gathered from students, families, and staff after several AMI days caused by severe winter weather. Surveys and community outreach efforts have helped collect insights on what’s working, what’s not, and where improvements can be made.

During the meeting, there will be a presentation on the effectiveness of AMI strategies. This will include tools like digital choice boards and special accommodations for students with different needs, including those with limited access to technology.

According to Missouri law, public school districts must provide at least 1,044 instructional hours each year to receive funding. This is about 166 school days. Schools must also account for at least 36 hours of make-up time, which equals five additional days that can be added at the end of the school year.

Additionally, the board will announce the two finalists for naming the new elementary school in southwest Columbia.

The meeting starts at 7:30 a.m. at the Aslin Administration building on Worley Street.
