COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

On Monday, the Columbia Board of Education decided on a name for its new elementary school: Eagle Bluffs Elementary School. This choice was made unanimously. The school will be located near John Warner Middle School on Sinclair Road.
Eagle Bluffs is designed to accommodate 750 students and is set to open in the fall of 2026. The school district sought input from the community last year, asking residents to submit name ideas via a form on their website. A committee composed of parents, students, and local community members reviewed these suggestions.
The community was asked to consider several factors when proposing names:
- How the name is relevant to the area;
- Its alignment with the school district’s mission and values;
- How unique and identifiable the name is;
- The name’s contribution to the city and school district; and
- Any historical significance it may have.
The only other finalist for the school’s name was Sinclair Elementary School. In total, the community submitted 46 different suggestions.
