New York — Columbia field hockey faced off against Brown in an Ivy League match but fell short with a score of 4-1 at the Columbia Field Hockey Complex.
Brown took control early, leading 3-0 by halftime. Lexi Pellegrino was instrumental, scoring twice. Columbia’s Sophia Abate found the net late in the third quarter with a goal off a penalty corner, thanks to assists from Sam Petrucco and Delfi Gonzalez Lobo. This brought the score to 3-1, giving the Lions a glimmer of hope.
The Lions rallied, generating seven shots, four of which came in the third period as they worked hard to close the gap. Goalkeeper Margot Houle displayed remarkable skill, making 13 saves throughout the game, eight of those in a critical third quarter when Brown intensified its attack. Lizzie Adams also contributed defensively with three key saves.
Pellegrino assisted Frances Moriniere in scoring Brown’s final goal in the last quarter, securing the win for Brown.
Columbia, now at 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the Ivy League, will seek redemption as they visit No. 19 Rutgers on Sunday at 1 p.m.
