Columbia Men’s Golf Secures 4th Place Finish at Red Flash Invitational: Highlights and Insights

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — The Columbia men’s golf team tied for fourth place at the Red Flash Invitational held at Sunnehana Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.

Star Performance
George Rubelsky stood out for Columbia, finishing in a tie for eighth place with a score of even-par 210. Rubelsky started strong with a 70 in the first round. He came alive in Round 2, posting a 3-under 67 with five birdies. He wrapped up the tournament with a 73.

Five Lions landed in the top 30 out of 66 competitors. Freshman Sam Johnson had a personal best, shooting rounds of 70, 70, and 71 to tie for 14th at 1 over par. His fellow first-years, Neil Kulkarni (+2) and Alejandro Formosa (+4), tied for 18th and 24th, respectively. Senior Darren Pang finished tied for 26th at 5 over.

Team Highlights
Columbia’s best moment came in the second round when they shot 6 under par. Along with Rubelsky’s standout 67, Kulkarni contributed a 68, Formosa recorded a 69, and Pang shot an even-par 70. As a team, Columbia finished at 7 over, marking their third top-five finish in four fall tournaments.

Looking Ahead
This tournament wraps up their fall season. The Lions will return to the course on February 17-18 for the Savannah Intercollegiate at The Golf Club at Savannah Harbor.
