Columbia University President Ties the Knot with Former Soccer Star: A Love Story Unveiled!

Claire Shipman, the Acting President of Columbia University, is set to marry Kati Jo Spisak, a former professional soccer player and coach. The two met in 2021 during a book event where Shipman was promoting her publication, “The Confidence Code: The Science and Art of Self-Assurance — What Women Should Know.” Spisak was with the Washington Spirit’s front office at the time.

Claire, who is 62, was previously married to Jay Carney, who served as press secretary for President Obama and now works at Airbnb. They have two children together. Meanwhile, Spisak, at 41, played as a goalkeeper for teams such as the Washington Freedom and Saint Louis Athletica, and also coached the Washington Spirit Reserves. She now manages a sports agency.

Shipman has a notable background. She spent 15 years on ABC’s “Good Morning America” as a senior correspondent. Her experience also includes time as a White House correspondent for NBC. A Columbia alumna, she has held her current position since March 2023.
