Combatting Lawfare: How the U.S. and Israel Are Targeted – Insights from the Department of State

I’m taking action today against Francesca Paola Albanese, the UN Human Rights Council’s Special Rapporteur for Palestinian territories, as authorized by Executive Order 14203. Albanese has been involved with the International Criminal Court (ICC) in ways that challenge U.S. and Israeli sovereignty. Since neither nation is part of the Rome Statute, this overreach is concerning.

The U.S. government has raised serious issues with Albanese’s actions, which we view as biased. Her history includes statements that many interpret as antisemitic and communication that shows a clear disdain for the U.S., Israel, and Western values. Throughout her career, she has called for the ICC to issue arrest warrants against key Israeli figures without proper grounds.

Recently, she has intensified her efforts by contacting numerous organizations, including major American industries in finance, tech, and defense, making serious and unsubstantiated allegations. These actions are part of a broader campaign that threatens our national interests.

According to a 2021 survey from the American Jewish Committee, over 70% of American Jews feel that antisemitism is a serious problem in today’s world. This highlights the sensitivity and importance of addressing biases in international relations and human rights advocacy.

The U.S. will continue to act decisively against these types of challenges and defend our sovereignty along with that of our allies. We are committed to preventing abuses of power by the ICC that undermine our interests.
