Success often attracts attention, especially in the NFL. The Washington Commanders are experiencing this firsthand. Recently, several teams have shown interest in their coaching staff.
Among those sought after are offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr., quarterbacks coach Tavita Pritchard, assistant QB coach David Blough, and assistant head coach/pass game coordinator Brian Johnson. NFL teams can block interviews for their staff unless it’s a straightforward promotion. Pritchard and Johnson both interviewed for open offensive coordinator roles, which would be promotions for them.
The Jets, Bears, and Jaguars expressed interest in interviewing Blough, but Washington declined all requests. Blough will continue with the team next season, just like Kingsbury.
This is a positive development for the Commanders. Blough, who is 29, transitioned to coaching this year after finishing his playing career. He previously played under Kingsbury in Arizona, where he made a solid impression.
Blough’s impact was recognized by head coach Dan Quinn and other team members. Particularly notable was his strong connection with quarterback Jayden Daniels. The two engaged in a friendly and competitive game of “PIG” every Friday during the season, showcasing their bond and competitive spirit.
With all members of Washington’s offensive staff likely staying on board, it bodes well for the team and for Daniels, who benefits from their continuity. If Kingsbury takes a head coaching position next year, Blough may find himself in line for a promotion.
