Cook County detectives are looking for a person of interest after a tragic shooting in Glenview. The victim, 16-year-old Lilly Bova, was found shot in her apartment over the weekend. She was a sophomore at Glenbrook South High School, just getting ready for summer.
Lilly’s father, Anthony Bova, shared memories of her as a vibrant young girl who was involved in everything around her. “She could do anything. She was a good person,” he said while displaying photos of her outside their home.
Madilynn Mendoza, one of Lilly’s closest friends and neighbors, remembered her fondly. “She was the prettiest girl I knew,” she said. Lilly was learning to drive, with her father taking her to practice just weeks ago.
Authorities reported that Lilly was shot at around 11 a.m. on Saturday and later died at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. Details about the shooting remain unclear. Detectives have not confirmed if Lilly knew the shooter or if it was a random act of violence.
Her classmates, including Laila Milanovic and Sasha Banaban, spoke about her infectious energy. “When she walks in a room, everyone wants to talk to her,” said Sasha. They even created a keepsake to honor her memory, describing their commitment to live like Lilly—full of love and positivity.
The community is mourning deeply. In a letter to families, school officials noted Lilly’s bright spirit and kind nature, emphasizing how much she will be missed. Grief counselors will be on hand at Glenbrook South to support students and staff through this difficult time.
In a show of solidarity, the Youth Peace & Justice Foundation will plant a tree in Lilly’s honor as part of their Trees for Peace initiative. They are also offering a reward for information that could lead to an arrest in her case.
