CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Cheyenne-Laramie County Health Department conducts regular inspections of various food establishments, including restaurants, grocery stores, and convenience shops. These inspections happen at least twice a year without prior notice.

The health department identifies two main types of violations during these inspections: critical (red) violations and non-critical (black) violations. Critical violations can pose a serious risk of foodborne illnesses, whereas non-critical violations generally relate to cleanliness and maintenance.
When inspectors find critical violations, they aim to have them addressed immediately or within 24 hours. Non-critical violations also need to be fixed, but these issues might get less immediate attention. Follow-up inspections for non-critical problems usually occur during the next scheduled visit.
If a reinspection is necessary, it suggests that the issue was more serious or required additional time to resolve. Facilities are given 10 days to correct any identified issues.
The goal of these inspections isn’t just to catch violations but also to educate business owners on safe practices. It’s important to note that a clean inspection report doesn’t always guarantee that a business is entirely safe, but it does indicate a commitment to maintaining health standards.
For further details, full inspection reports are available on the health department’s website.
