AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas men’s tennis team put on a fantastic show on Saturday, defeating the University of Dallas 7-0 at River Place Country Club. This victory marks the Tornados’ third shutout in conference play this season.
They kicked off strong in the doubles matches, winning all three to claim the first point. The team of Daniel Beckles and Rowan Daniell took a quick 6-1 win at No. 1. Following them, Aaron Griffin and Kade Talbot won 6-3 at No. 2. Jake Riggs and Steven Scholz capped off the doubles sweep with a perfect 6-0 win at No. 3.
Building on that momentum, the Tornados dominated singles play. Steven Scholz led at No. 1 singles with an easy 6-0, 6-1 victory. Meanwhile, Daniel Beckles won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2, and Aaron Griffin secured a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3. The standout performances continued with Kade Talbot winning 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4, Rowan Daniell adding a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 5, and Jack Rectenwald finishing the clean sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6.
This win highlights the remarkable performance from Concordia’s tennis squad this season. According to recent statistics, teams achieving multiple shutouts in a season can greatly enhance their rankings and appeal to potential recruits, showcasing their strength and team unity. Historically, teams that dominate early in their matches tend to carry that confidence into later games—something the Tornados are demonstrating clearly.
Next, Concordia Texas will head to Houston to face St. Thomas on March 27th at 2 PM. The team is looking to maintain their strong momentum as they approach the latter part of the season.
