GEORGETOWN, Texas — The Concordia Texas baseball team showcased an impressive offensive display on Tuesday night, defeating Southwestern University 17-7 with 12 hits. Both Kalen Clark and Logan Smith made headlines by hitting home runs at Rockwell Family Field.
The action kicked off in the first inning when Clark doubled down the left field line, bringing Kolten McDaniel home for an early 1-0 lead.
The Tornados really took control in the third inning. Clark launched a two-run home run to left, followed by a run from Isaac Willingham due to a balk by the Southwestern pitcher. Logan Smith then added a solo shot, pushing Concordia ahead 5-0.
Southwestern fought back, scoring two runs in the bottom of the third. However, Concordia didn’t waver; they continued building their lead.
In the fourth inning, the Tornados scored one more run before sending five across the plate in the fifth. McDaniel showcased his skills with an infield single that brought in another run. Ty Klaus-Kismore scored on a pickoff error, and Landon Hyle knocked an RBI double before Carson Riley hit a two-run double to stretch the lead to 11-2.
Southwestern responded with a four-run homer later in the fifth, but Concordia kept piling on the runs.
In the sixth inning, Louis Alonzo hit a two-run double, while Hyle added to the score in the eighth with a two-RBI single, pushing the lead to 15-6.
To seal the game, Klaus-Kismore drove in another run in the ninth, with McDaniel adding a groundout. On the pitching side, Ralph Wallace III claimed victory with three strikeouts over 2.0 innings, as the team combined efforts to keep Southwestern in check.
Concordia Texas will now travel to Longview, Texas, to face LeTourneau in a series starting Thursday, March 5, at 6 PM.
