Congress Challenges US-Mediated India-Pakistan Ceasefire: Calls for Government Clarification

Delhi: The Congress Party is voicing strong concerns about a recent ceasefire between India and Pakistan, reportedly mediated by former US President Donald Trump. They believe this represents a significant shift, as it’s the first time in 75 years that a third country has intervened in this matter. Congress leaders are demanding clarity from the Indian government and asking for a special session of Parliament.

During a press conference in Delhi, Congress National General Secretary Sachin Pilot expressed astonishment at the situation. “This is a first. He also raised issues regarding Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Referring to a 1994 parliamentary resolution that declared PoK as part of India, he advocated for reaffirming this claim. “We must assert our position; PoK is an internal matter,” he insisted, warning against external attempts to internationalize the issue.

Ceasefire Violations

Despite the ceasefire announcement, Pilot noted that firing from Pakistan continued. “What assurance do we have that Pakistan won’t breach this ceasefire again? Can we trust them?” he questioned.

Drawing from India’s past, Pilot referenced decisive actions taken by previous Prime Ministers. He recalled how Indira Gandhi held firm against US threats during the 1971 war, emphasizing the need for strong leadership today. He contrasted this with the unity shown during the Parliament attack when Sonia Gandhi supported the government, suggesting a similarly united front is essential now.

Pilot concluded his remarks by praising the Indian Army’s resilience and success in handling threats from terrorist bases in Pakistan. “Our Army has once again showcased its commitment to our national security,” he said.
