Congress Criticizes Government After Indian Defence Attache’s Shocking ‘Lost Jets’ Claims: A Misled Nation’s Outcry

New Delhi: The Congress party is raising questions about India’s military actions after comments from a defence official suggested the Indian Air Force lost fighter jets during Operation Sindoor. This operation took place on May 7, 2025, targeting terror sites in Pakistan. Congress is accusing the government of misleading the public on this matter.

Jairam Ramesh, a senior Congress official, highlighted a report from Captain Shiv Kumar, who spoke at a recent seminar in Indonesia. Kumar mentioned that the Indian Air Force faced aircraft losses while pursuing its objectives. This revelation has led to mounting criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not convening an all-party meeting to discuss the issue.

In response, the Indian embassy in Indonesia clarified that the comments from the defence attaché were taken out of context. They emphasized that the remarks were misinterpreted and that the presentation’s intent was misunderstood.

Ramesh pointed out a pattern of communication from military officials about air combat losses. He noted how the Chief of Defence Staff made important comments earlier in Singapore, followed by discussions in Indonesia.

Pawan Khera, another Congress leader, stated that the Modi government has consistently failed to be transparent about the nation’s military losses. He referred to earlier briefings where vague references to losses were made but no clear information was provided.

The situation reflects a broader concern about accountability and transparency in government communications. Public trust can be easily shaken when citizens feel kept in the dark about significant issues like national security. According to a recent survey by the Pew Research Center, nearly 70% of respondents believe the government should share more information regarding military operations with the public.

The controversy comes against a backdrop of increasing tensions between India and Pakistan. The military strikes during Operation Sindoor led to four days of intense clashes before both sides agreed to halt military actions. This reveals the precarious state of peace in the region and the necessity for clear dialogue from leaders to maintain public confidence.
