Congress Under Fire: BJP Responds to U.S. Cancellation of India’s ‘Voter Turnout’ Program

The BJP recently expressed concerns about a U.S.-funded program that was intended to boost voter turnout in India but has since been canceled. They allege that this program points to the past actions of the Congress-led UPA government, suggesting it allowed foreign influence within Indian institutions.

Amit Malviya, head of the BJP’s IT department, shared his views on X, stating, “It’s clear that the Congress-led UPA facilitated the infiltration of our institutions by groups that aim to undermine India.” He specifically mentioned billionaire investor George Soros, claiming he has ties with the Congress party and has an influence on India’s elections.

Malviya noted that in 2012, the Election Commission of India signed an agreement with the International Foundation for Electoral Systems, an organization connected to Soros’ Open Society Foundation, which receives funding from USAID.

He criticized the Congress for questioning how India’s Election Commissioner is appointed while simultaneously allowing foreign entities to engage with the Election Commission.

Additionally, he referenced Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, which canceled several large programs, including a $21 million initiative aimed at increasing voter turnout in India. Malviya commented on this, saying, “$21 million for voter turnout? This is clearly external interference in our electoral process. Who benefits? Certainly not the ruling party!”

This situation raises important questions about the influence of foreign funding on Indian elections and the integrity of its institutions.
