Congressman Josh Brecheen Revives Healthy SNAP Act: A Step Towards Healthier Food Choices for All

MONROE, La. – Congressman Josh Brecheen has reintroduced the Healthy SNAP Act. This bill aims to connect the foods eligible for SNAP benefits to nutrition science, public health guidelines, and cultural diets. The focus is on helping over 42 million Americans who depend on SNAP, encouraging them to make healthier food choices.

With obesity rates rising, Congressman Brecheen believes this bill could make a difference. Nearly 75% of adults and 33% of children in the U.S. struggle with overweight or obesity. The act proposes to exclude items like sugary drinks, candy, ice cream, and prepared desserts from SNAP purchases. In his statement, Congressman Brecheen stressed the importance of responsible spending of taxpayer dollars.
