WSU Volleyball Dominates in WCC Opener
Washington State University’s volleyball team kicked off their West Coast Conference play with a stunning 3-0 victory over San Francisco. The match took place in Bohler Gym on September 25, 2025.
The Cougars showed a well-rounded performance, with six players contributing multiple kills. Camryn Lingenbrink and Eliana Ti’a led the charge, combining for 13 kills. Lucie Blažková was a standout, making her mark with four kills, three aces, and a strong defensive presence with six blocks. Mary Healy also played a crucial role, adding five kills and three aces.
Serving was a game-changer for WSU. They amassed 12 aces, putting pressure on San Francisco’s defense. Blažková, Healy, Italia Bernal, and Tinons Munar Galmés all contributed with two aces each. Defensively, Munar Galmés excelled with 10 digs, while Bernal provided 12 assists to direct the offense effectively.
The first set saw Washington State take control early, thanks to Healy’s back-to-back aces, leading to a 25-19 win. The second set was tighter, featuring five ties, but WSU held steady. Melina Christodoulou’s service ace helped clinch the 25-22 win. They finished strong in the final set, with Blažková sealing the sweep with consecutive aces.

Research shows that teams performing well in serving and defense often lead in matches, and WSU’s numbers support this finding. Their 12 aces were the fourth instance this season of reaching double digits in that category, while 10 blocks were recorded for the third time.
