This weekend, we’re heading to Old Trafford with the chance to make Premier League history. If we win, we’ll become the first team ever to beat Manchester United five times in a row in this league.
Our recent success against United has been impressive. After winning 2-0 at Emirates Stadium last December, we’ve now won four straight league matches against them. That’s our longest winning streak against United in the Premier League, which is quite an achievement considering our long rivalry dates back to 1906.
Only three other teams have managed four wins in a row against United since the Premier League began in 1992: Liverpool, Manchester City, and Brighton. But none of them won their following match against United. So, if we grab those three points this Sunday, we’ll stand alone in the record books.
Our winning streak started in January 2023 when Eddie Nketiah scored a last-minute goal in a thrilling 3-2 victory. Following that, we secured another win in August, defeating United 3-1 with goals from Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus. Last season, Leandro Trossard also scored to give us our first league double over United since 2006/07. Most recently, Jurrien Timber and William Saliba led us to a victory against their new manager, Ruben Amorim.
This current run is the best we’ve ever had against United. We’ve only managed three wins in a row a few times in our history, and never four until now. It’s a remarkable moment for us as we continue to build our confidence and skills.
Sunday also offers us a chance for something special. If we win, it would mark our first back-to-back league wins at Old Trafford since the 1970s. The last time we managed this was in November 1977 and February 1979. Those matches are still fresh in the minds of long-time fans. Achieving another away victory at United would be a memorable milestone for our team and supporters alike.
So, as we prepare for this match, the excitement is palpable. Winning could not only add another chapter to our storied rivalry but also solidify our place in Premier League history.
