Could Rare’s Classic N64 Shooter Make History in the 2025 World Video Game Hall of Fame?

GoldenEye

Each year, The Strong Museum shares its nominees for the ‘World Video Game Hall of Fame.’ In 2025, Rare’s classic Nintendo 64 shooter, GoldenEye 007, has made a comeback after missing out last year.

GoldenEye 007 faces a diverse group of contenders, including:

  • Age of Empires (1997)
  • Angry Birds (2009)
  • Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2007)
  • Defender (1981)
  • Frogger (1981)
  • Golden Tee (1989)
  • Harvest Moon (1996)
  • Mattel Football (1977)
  • NBA 2K
  • Quake (1996)
  • Tamagotchi (1996)

Video Game Hall of Fame Finalists

The Video Game Hall of Fame was created to honor games of all types—arcade, console, and mobile—that have gained lasting popularity and impacted gaming culture or society.

Players can vote on their favorites at the Museum of Play website. Here’s how it works:

The three games with the most votes will be added to a ballot alongside top nominees from the International Selection Advisory Committee. Public votes will count as a single committee member.

Which of these games do you think deserves a nomination?
