Recently, the Miami Dolphins confirmed they will be the home team for this landmark event. So, where do the Commanders fit into this? Miami’s home schedule next season includes the Commanders among other teams like the Bills, Patriots, Jets, and more. This makes it possible for Washington to play in Madrid.
Typically, the NFL avoids scheduling divisional rivals for international games, which likely rules out the Bills, Jets, and Patriots. Still, the Commanders could be on the field in Spain when the time comes.
Miami Dolphins CEO, Tom Garfinkel, expressed his excitement about bringing NFL football to Spain. He emphasized the growing interest in football in the country and highlighted the Miami and Madrid connection. “We look forward to engaging with fans old and new,” he said.
Miami isn’t the only team with international plans. The Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Jets, and Cleveland Browns will take their games to London, while the Indianapolis Colts are set for a game in Germany. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell mentioned hopes for as many as eight international games in 2025.
