Dixon returns to the Cowboys, replacing Aaron Whitecotton, who left to join Robert Saleh with the Tennessee Titans. At 41, Dixon brings a wealth of experience. He started his career as an undrafted free agent in 2008 with the Cowboys, eventually playing for teams like the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs.
After his playing days, Dixon switched to coaching. He began at Hampton University, shaping young minds on the defensive line and serving as the recruiting coordinator. His talent caught the eye of the Los Angeles Rams in 2021, where he worked as the assistant defensive line coach. Then, he earned a promotion to the Denver Broncos as the defensive line coach in 2022. It was here he collaborated with Parker, leading to their reunion in Dallas.
Most recently, Dixon helped coach the Minnesota Vikings’ defensive line, contributing to one of the top defenses in the NFL. This new role with the Cowboys marks a pivotal moment in his career.
Dixon’s hiring is part of a larger effort to revamp the Cowboys’ defense. He joins Ryan Smith, who will oversee the cornerbacks and secondary, and Derrick Ansley, who takes on the role of pass game coordinator and defensive backs coach. Together, they aim to create a formidable defensive lineup.
