The Cowboys are in a good position to sign Micah Parsons to a long-term deal and also to make moves in free agency. The team has recently freed up $56.6 million in cap space.
Just last Tuesday, they restructured CeeDee Lamb’s contract, creating an extra $20 million in cap space. Following that, they did the same with Dak Prescott’s contract, which freed up another $36.6 million. This restructuring is possible because Prescott’s deal has an autoconversion clause that allows the team to adjust it as needed. Many big contracts, including Lamb’s, have similar clauses.
Prescott’s original cap number for 2025 was set at $89.896 million, making it clear that the team would need to adjust his deal.
As it stands, the Cowboys have $54.3 million available in cap space, but it seems they are not eager to spend it all in free agency. Owner Jerry Jones suggested that the team’s approach isn’t as “aggressive” as his son, executive vice president Stephen Jones, indicated. Stephen previously mentioned that the Cowboys would be “selectively aggressive” in their free agency strategy. Last year, they only signed running back Royce Freeman and linebacker Eric Kendricks during the first phase of free agency.
This time, fans will be keeping a close eye on which players the Cowboys might add to strengthen the roster.
