FRISCO, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys have made a significant move. They traded to acquire Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens, along with a sixth-round pick in 2027. In return, they gave up a third-round pick in 2026 and a fifth-round pick in 2027.
Now at 24, Pickens has the chance to team up with CeeDee Lamb. The Cowboys have been looking for a reliable partner for Lamb, and Pickens fits the bill well. With this being just his fourth NFL season, he has plenty of room for growth.
Pickens made waves in Pittsburgh shortly after being drafted in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. During his best season yet in 2023, he led the Steelers with 1,140 receiving yards on 63 catches, scoring five touchdowns along the way. Notably, he achieved these numbers while working with three different starting quarterbacks: Kenny Pickett, Mason Rudolph, and Mitchell Trubisky.
In 2022, his rookie year, Pickens recorded 801 yards from 52 receptions, ranking second on the team behind Diontae Johnson. Although he faced challenges, including a hamstring injury that sidelined him for three games last season, he returned just in time for the playoffs, contributing five catches for 87 yards and a touchdown in a Wild Card loss to the Ravens.
Before turning pro, Pickens battled a torn ACL during his junior year at Georgia but made an impressive comeback to help his team clinch the national championship. In that final game, he made a standout 52-yard catch that showcased his athleticism and skill.
During the NFL league meetings in March, Cowboys COO Stephen Jones mentioned their intention to enhance the receiving corps. “We’re still looking for a really explosive number two,” he stated, underscoring their desire for more firepower on offense. With Pickens now in the mix, the Cowboys have added the explosive receiver they’ve been seeking.
In terms of user reactions, fans across social media are buzzing about the trade. Many see it as a positive step toward improving the team’s chances next season. Given that the Cowboys are gearing up for a competitive year, having a player like Pickens could be key to their success.
As Pickens joins the Cowboys, it will be interesting to see how he and Lamb mesh on the field and how they elevate the team’s performance in the upcoming season.
