Erie, Colorado—The Creighton men’s golf team recently tied their season-low score at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, finishing at 11-under par with a total of 853. The event took place at the Colorado National Golf Course, where they shot rounds of 284 and 285 across three days.
Player Highlights
Grant Feldman led the Bluejays with impressive rounds of 68-73-68, finishing at seven-under and tying for 14th overall. He caught attention with two eagles on par-four holes, showcasing his skill on the course. Feldman also racked up 14 birdies during the tournament.
Owen Price didn’t fall far behind. He tied for 21st, wrapping up with a total of 210, marking a personal best for a 54-hole tournament. He carded one eagle and 10 birdies, demonstrating steady performance throughout the event.
Brock Kuhlman also had a noteworthy outing, scoring two-under with rounds of 71-70-73. His total of 214 tied him for 44th, breaking his personal 54-hole record by one shot.
Jacob Kutner and Gavin Gerch rounded out the team. Kutner finished tied for 73rd with a score of 221, while Gerch placed 91st with a total of 228.
Tournament Overview
Arkansas State won the tournament in dramatic fashion with a score of 42-under par, just edging out host Colorado at 41-under. Long Beach State rounded out the top three at 40-under. Individually, Arkansas State’s Thomas Schmidt made headlines with a record-breaking 22-under par for the tournament.
The course itself was challenging, stretching 7,787 yards and playing as a par 72. With 19 teams and 100 players, the Bluejays’ performance ties their season best, matching their earlier score at the Bluejay Invitational earlier in September.
Looking Ahead
The Bluejays will compete next in the Florida Atlantic Invitational in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, on October 27th and 28th. This will mark the conclusion of their fall season.
In recent years, collegiate golf has seen a rise in scoring averages, making such performances even more impressive. According to a survey by the NCAA, the average score for men’s collegiate golfers has dropped significantly over the last decade, reflecting an overall improvement in youth golf skill development.
