Head coach Tom Lilly remarked on the match, noting, “DePaul was too tough in all aspects today. They came out on fire, and we just were not competitive enough throughout the lineup. We have some things to work on and will start that next week.”
From the start, DePaul showed their strength in doubles play. Clara Nilsson and Hannah Smith secured a swift 6-1 victory over Ana Paula Martinez and Sophie Schwartz at the top doubles court. Yasemin Pehlivan and Sasha Stula matched that with another 6-1 win against Annika Elvestrom and Olivia Minikel, clinching the first point for DePaul.
In singles, DePaul continued their dominance, quickly winning matches on the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4 courts. Stula triumphed over Schwartz with a score of 6-3, 6-2. Meanwhile, Smith delivered a decisive 6-0, 6-0 win against Martinez. Pehlivan sealed the match’s fate with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Teresa Tran.
The Blue Demons went on to secure wins at the No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6 singles courts, completing the sweep against Creighton.
Looking ahead, Creighton will regroup and face Drake on February 6 at 4:30 p.m.
