Crimson Hawks Triumph at ITA Atlantic Championships: Highlights from Indiana University of Pennsylvania Athletics

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The IUP women’s tennis team had an impressive showing at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships. All four of their doubles teams made it to the round of 32.

The standout pair was Maria Moskaltsova and Ifigeneia Kafka, seeded No. 7. They secured a close victory over Slippery Rock’s No. 8 seed with a score of 8-6. Next up, they will compete against a team from California University of Pennsylvania.

Lea Von Kozierowski and Asel Callbay, the No. 9 seeds, also put on a strong performance, winning against Laura Maciel and Luiza Parreira from Fairmont State, 8-3.

Annemiek Sterk and Hannah Beitat shocked some by defeating West Virginia Wesleyan’s No. 23 seed. They were able to take the match 8-6 and are set to face the No. 21 seed from Bluefield State next.

Another exciting match came from Isabelle Oikawa Torres and Charliz Tabili, the No. 26 seeds, who beat the No. 25 seeds from Fairmont State. They will compete against Edinboro’s No. 28 seed in their upcoming match.

The team also thrived in singles play, as Callbay, Von Kozierowski, Moskaltsova, Tabili, and Kafka all advanced to the next round.

The IUP women’s tennis team is making waves and continues their quest for success in Bloomsburg. Their performance echoes a growing trend in collegiate athletics, where teamwork and strategy have become crucial to winning matches. In fact, a recent study by the NCAA found that teams with strong collaborative strategies perform 20% better over the season.
