Critics Weigh In: Nicholas Galitzine and Jared Leto Shine in ‘Masters of the Universe’ – What You Need to Know!

He-Man is back on the big screen! The new film, Masters of the Universe, hits theaters Friday, and early reviews are rolling in.

This live-action adaptation, directed by Travis Knight, tells the story of Prince Adam from Eternia. After crashing on Earth as a child and losing his Sword of Power, he grows up as Adam Glenn. When the time comes, he finds the sword and returns home to battle Skeletor.

Nicholas Galitzine plays He-Man/Prince Adam, while Jared Leto takes on the role of the villain, Skeletor. The film also features Idris Elba as Man-at-Arms and Camila Mendes as Teela.

At the film’s premiere, Dolph Lundgren, the original He-Man from the 1987 film, praised Galitzine’s performance. He noted, “You need a guy who is a leading-man type. Muscles and strength come later.” This shows how important character depth is for a film like this.

As of now, the movie has a 74% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics have mixed feelings. Frank Scheck from THR described it as feeling like a “fringe festival musical” and suggested it may be trying too hard to please fans.

In contrast, Clint Gage from IGN found it surprisingly funny, praising the fight scenes and Leto’s quirky portrayal of Skeletor. Videos and discussions on platforms like YouTube show that many fans are highlighting Leto’s fun performance, with critic Jeremy Jahns noting the film’s heart and life lessons, despite some comedic misfires.

Ryan Britt from Inverse highlighted a core theme—navigating childhood hopes and fears. This theme resonates with both fans of the original series and newcomers. While some viewers may not have grown up with He-Man, they often find themselves drawn to the nostalgic elements.

However, not all reviews are positive. Benjamin Lee from The Guardian criticized the hefty $200 million budget, calling the film a “misfire” and questioning its relevance in today’s market, especially as the original toys aren’t as popular anymore.

Overall, Masters of the Universe seems to be a mixed bag. It’s getting attention on social media, with fans debating its merits. While some see it as a fun throwback, others wonder if it truly lives up to past expectations.
