Attorney Bill Curtin, representing Prospect Medical Holdings, which owns Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Taylor Hospital in Delaware County, reported that while there won’t be an immediate closure, challenges remain.

Earlier this week, the hospital system needed to secure $9 million by Wednesday evening to stay operational. As of Thursday, they had raised $6 million. This sum includes a generous $5 million donation from Penn Medicine, facilitated by the Pennsylvania attorney general’s office. Delaware County also pitched in with $1 million.

With this financial lifeline, the hospitals can continue their operations for about a week to ten days. However, Curtin emphasized that relying on short-term fixes isn’t sustainable. The hospital system must develop a long-term strategy to avoid a sudden closure.

As part of this strategic shift, some services, like OBGYN care, will be phased out of Crozer. The future of other services remains uncertain, leaving many in the community anxious.
