IRVINE, Calif. – The Golden Eagles had an exciting day on the field, splitting their series against the No. 4 ranked Northwest Nazarene. They started strong, coming back from a 0-6 deficit in the first game to secure a thrilling 7-6 victory but fell short in the second game, losing 2-4.
In their first matchup, Evan Langer pitched 4.2 innings, giving up six runs on seven hits. Freshman Caden Miller made a stunning debut, tossing 4.1 scoreless innings and striking out three without allowing a walk.
The Nighthawks raced to a 4-0 lead, with a couple of doubles extending their advantage to 6-0. But the Golden Eagles responded in the fifth inning. Dylan Knowles launched a three-run home run that shifted the momentum. Then, Jordan Bolden added an RBI single, narrowing the gap to 6-4.
The sixth inning saw more action, with Isaiah Walz and Landry Spitler hitting singles. Madison’s sacrifice fly brought Walz home, making it a one-run game. In a dramatic seventh inning, Walz hit a two-run double, putting the Eagles ahead 7-6.
In the second game, the Nighthawks jumped to a three-run lead in the first inning. However, they couldn’t secure the win, and NNU clinched the game in the seventh.
Notably, Wyatt Madison returned to the mound for the Golden Eagles during the second match, after a long break since 2024. He pitched five innings, allowing four runs on eight hits. Josh Pugh was impressive in relief, delivering two scoreless innings with just two hits allowed.
The Golden Eagles will face Cal State Dominguez Hills next, starting Thursday, with the series continuing through Saturday.
