Customize Your Google Discover Feed: Unlock Personalized Content with ‘Tailor Your Feed’ Lab

Google is experimenting with a feature called “Tailor your feed” in its app. This lets users customize what they want to see in Discover, making it more personal.

To try it out, open the Google app on your Android device. Tap on the Labs beaker icon in the top-left corner, scroll down to find “Tailor your feed,” and turn it on by swiping down.

You’ll see a prompt that suggests you can ask for specific content. For example, you might want to say, “Stop showing me negative news.”

This tool allows you to describe topics, sources, and even the vibe of the content you want. For instance, you can request:

  • “I want training advice for my first half marathon.”
  • “Keep me updated on college basketball.”

Conversely, you can also remove content you no longer need, like:

  • “I just returned from New York; no more travel tips, please.”
  • “I want news but need a break from politics.”

Further customization is also possible. If you like getting recipes but prefer dairy-free options, you can specify that too. You can even request more from certain publishers or formats, like:

  • “I want more from The Washington Post.”
  • “Show me meal prep videos.”
  • “Make my feed feel calm and cozy.”

Google says its AI will adjust your feed immediately and remember your preferences. You can always revisit and tweak these settings. This feature is currently in early testing and is available in US English.

According to recent surveys, many users want more control over their content, with 70% of respondents expressing a desire for customizable news feeds (source: Pew Research). This aligns with a growing trend where personalization in technology is crucial. People no longer want generic content; they crave relevance.
